Vaillant Boiler Pump 178983 – Old Type 5-Wire Pump – Replaced by 0010030632

Product Overview

The Vaillant Boiler Pump (Part Number: 178983) is an old-style 5-wire boiler circulation pump used within selected Vaillant heating systems.

Part number 178983 is an earlier Vaillant pump reference which has since been replaced by the newer high-efficiency pump 0010030632. The 0010030632 is therefore the manufacturer's later replacement reference and should not be confused with the original old-style 178983 pump.

The pump circulates heated water through the boiler and central heating system, helping maintain water flow through the appliance during heating operation.

This listing is specifically for the old-style 5-wire pump configuration associated with part number 178983.

Technical Insight & Common Failure Symptoms

The boiler circulation pump is responsible for moving heated water through the boiler and heating system. Correct pump operation is essential for maintaining adequate water circulation during heating demand.

As the pump is a mechanical and electrical component, it can become worn or faulty over time.

Typical symptoms associated with a faulty or failing boiler pump include:

• Boiler overheating or shutting down during operation
• Poor water circulation through the heating system
• Radiators failing to heat correctly
• Boiler failing to operate correctly during heating demand
• Pump failing to start
• Unusual pump noise or vibration
• Reduced heating performance
• Boiler fault or lockout conditions associated with insufficient circulation

A worn or faulty pump may require replacement to restore the correct circulation required by the heating system.

Compatibility

This 178983 5-wire pump is designed for selected Vaillant ecoTEC Plus heating appliances.

Documented applications for the 178983 pump include selected ecoTEC Plus 612, 615, 618, 624 and 630 models, with other applications also listed depending on the specific boiler revision.

The old-style 178983 pump is also available in different configurations depending on the original appliance. When replacing a pump head, the existing pump should be carefully compared, including the number of wires and screw/bolt configuration, before ordering.

Please strictly verify the manufacturer part number 178983 against your boiler's technical manual, exploded parts diagram and existing pump before ordering to guarantee correct fitment.

Important: Part number 0010030632 is the later high-efficiency replacement for 178983 and is not the same physical pump as the old-style 178983 shown in this listing. If replacing an old 178983 with 0010030632, the appropriate conversion cable may also be required depending on the appliance.

Safety Advice

The boiler pump forms part of the appliance's hydraulic and electrical systems. Installation and servicing should only be carried out by a suitably qualified heating engineer in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and applicable UK safety requirements.

Before replacing the pump, ensure the boiler and heating system are safely isolated and that the system is at the appropriate pressure and temperature conditions for the work being carried out.

Always verify the pump part number, 5-wire configuration and physical pump connection/screw arrangement against the existing component before installation.
